Year 6 broaden religious horizons on Canolfan Iman Centre Mosque visit

A Preparatory School year group got the chance to enhance their religious horizons thanks to a recent trip.

The Year 6 contingent at Rydal Penrhos paid a visit to the Canolfan Iman Centre Mosque situated in Llandudno Junction, where they took part in a series of activities designed to enhance their knowledge of Islam.

The group were led by Imam Mohamed, who is a good friend of the school, and he began by speaking about the five Pillars of Islam and their significance both throughout history and in today’s society.

He then showed the pupils the wash room where those using the facility start their ritual before praying, before moving to the main hall to give those visiting a demonstration of the postures of prayer.

The Reverend Nick Sissons, chaplain at Rydal Penrhos who organised the visit, said: “The children all completed newspaper reports on the visit writing about what they learnt, what surprised then and what questions they still wanted answers for.

“It was another very successful visit and a good reminder of the importance of understanding our neighbours and forming good relationships with them.”

This is the latest in a series of special visits similar sites in the region throughout the academic year, which gives each pupil at Rydal Penrhos a better understanding and tolerance for other beliefs and religions they may not have been necessarily familiar with before.
