A multi-talented Preparatory School pupil took the first steps on his musical journey after an impressive grading success.
Xavier Poynton, a Year 2 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, recently sat his Prep Test administered by the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music, which is the first time he had ever sat an assessment of this kind.
The seven-year-old worked incredibly hard in the lead-up to the exam under the support of Rydal Penrhos’ passionate staff to give him the best possible chance of succeeding
The Prep School pupil held his nerve to remember the right notes and come through the test with flying colours, and he can now begin working towards further grading achievements over the summer and during the next academic year.
An ABRSM examiner, commented: “The tunes were mostly safely from memory and ‘Train Ride’ had some great character and balance of hands.
“My Brass Band was played with energy and at a steady pace, and all performances were very prompt and easy showing a good ear.
“What a lovely start from Xavier and go on with confidence.”
This is a latest in a series of successes for Xavier, who has gained notoriety despite his tender age thanks to his regional and national skiing success in what has been s standout season for the aspiring star.
Deputy Head Alison Hind, said: “Congratulations go to Xavier for a wonderful performance during his first music assessment, and hopefully this will be a great platform from which to build and gain even more accolades in the coming months.”
