Will Glanville and Felix Griffin help Conwy Borough U8 side reach final of regional tournament

A pair of Preparatory School footballers helped a junior side reach the final of a high-profile tournament recently.

Will Glanville and Felix Griffin, Year 3 and 2 pupils at Rydal Penrhos, were part of the Conwy Borough U8 side that competed at the 2017 Wales Junior Tournament, which was held at the home of Welsh Premier League side held at Llandudno last weekend.

The ‘Jackdaws' progressed through the rounds stage to a tough semi-finals against fellow local team Colwyn Bay which after extra time went to penalties.

Holding their nerve, Boro’ won the shootout making through to a tough final against Liverpool team River Juniors FC.

The side were unfortunate to be on the wrong end of a 1-0 reverse in the final thanks to a last gasp winner from the Merseyside outfit.

Conwy Borough Jackdaws coach Matt Gilmore said:  “I am so proud of the boys, reaching the final of one of the toughest tournaments around.

“They were outstanding and listened to every instruction, battling through a tough day. What an achievement for a team put together by Conwy Borough only 8-9 months ago. The future is bright for the Jackdaws."

The Rydal Penrhos duo are off to Holland with the squad next season to compete in what will be their first European tournament.
