Quiz hopefuls from two houses at Rydal Penrhos competed for bragging rights during a competition based on a long-running nationwide show.
The school’s Senior University Challenge final took place before the end of term, and saw Payne and Wesley battle it out in the hopes of securing the overall crown.
Deputy Head Tim Cashell was in charge of proceedings throughout, and the competition’s showcase also attracted a bumper crowd to the Carnegie Room.
After a fiercely competitive event, which was held over a number of rounds, the Wesley team consisting of Ben Gibson, Amy Cole-King, Gowri Pradeep and Felix Fink emerged victorious.
They pipped the Payne team of Imogen Camp, Eddie Farrell, Jamie Smith and Eric Zhao into second spot.
This is the latest in a series of inter-house competitions in the lead-up to the Easter break, with all four looking for some extra points before the coveted Yeung Bowl House Cup winner is announced at Rydal Penrhos’ annual Speech Day on Saturday, May 26.
Mr Cashell, said: “Our University Challenge competition was another fantastic demonstration of house pride that is a prominent feature throughout all areas of Rydal Penrhos, and congratulations go to Wesley on their victory.
“The race for the House Cup is closer than ever this year and the efforts of each pupil at the school are going to be key between now and Speech Day, and hopefully this will bring with it some more fantastic individual and team efforts over the coming weeks.”
