U13 Girls' Cricket side take part in first competitive fixture

A girls’ cricket team at Rydal Penrhos continued their impressive development in their first ever competitive fixture last week.

The U13 side travelled to Birkenhead School on Monday, May 14, which was their debut fixture after honing their skills during a series of coaching session over the winter months under the guidance of Rydal Penrhos’ dedicated coaching staff including Head of Cricket Mike Leach and Menai Bridge captain Dion Holden.

Despite a highly encouraging performance from the group, they were narrowly edged out by their opponents on The Wirral and eventually fell to a 12-run defeat.

There were plenty of strong individual performances throughout the contest that can give the team a solid platform from which to build in the coming weeks., with the batting efforts of Lily Davies and Ariana Milligan producing a number of eye-catching strokes during their time at the crease.

The bowling tandem of Alys Peake-Jones and Melissa Vos also produced a consistent effort from the respective spells, which almost guided the Rydal Penrhos contingent to a debut victory.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Our girls’ cricket programme is something that has received an enormous amount of interest, and it was truly wonderful to see the U13 side perform so well despite their inexperience.

“Hopefully this was a huge confidence boost for them as they look to progress their overall games in the future, and I would like to congratulate them all on their first performance as a group in a competitive environment.”
