A small group of intrepid pupils have secured a notable qualification as part of their efforts on a renowned course.
Louise Weis, Jacob Cousins and Hermione-Rose Toulmin recently took part in the PADI Open Water Diving course in recent weeks, where they spent hours in Rydal Penrhos’ swimming pool honing their skills under the guidance of department head Maciej Ruszkowski.
This culminated in a final theory examination at Llanberis lake earlier this month, where the trio were tasked with a number of difficult tasks in sweltering conditions with a view to achieving the qualification over a two-day period.
Newly appointed Prefect and Payne House captain Louise, together with Year 8 pupil Jacob, both came through the assessment with flying colours to gain the distinction.
Year 7 pupil Hermione-Rose also did “extremely well but requires additional practice to build her confidence in order to achieve certification”, said Mr Ruszkowski.
He added: “The course was thoroughly enjoyed by all three who took part, and I was extremely impressed with how quickly they picked up what is a difficult skill to master.
“Louise, Jacob and Hermione-Rose can all be very proud of the level of commitment and enthusiasm they demonstrated throughout, and this experience is going to do their overall development an enormous amount of good.”
The school’s swimming department run a number of different courses throughout the year, in addition to swimming lessons and one-to-one sessions.
