Trio achieve accolades from Intermediate Biology Challenge

A group of Sixth Form pupils at Rydal Penrhos secured impressive result from a nationwide Science challenge.

The Intermediate Biology Olympiad tests pupils’ biology knowledge and encourages them to continue studying the biosciences beyond school.

The competition is open to pupils in the first year of post-16 education, and consists of a one-hour multiple choice paper to be taken online under staff supervised exam conditions.

Questions were set on topics that are likely to have been covered at GCSE and in their first year of A-level.

Results were published last week and saw newly appointed Prefect Imogen Camp rewarded for her exceptional effort throughout the assessment with a coveted Gold Award.

There was further success in the form of Head Girl Gowri Pradeep, who secured a Bronze Award from the Olympiad, with Ivy Tun awarded a highly commended certificate to round off the achievements from a Rydal Penrhos perspective.

Each candidate received an exceptional amount of support and guidance in the lead-up to the challenge from Head of Biology Anne

Head of Sixth Form Peter Lavery, said: “This is an outstanding result and another fine example of Gowri, Imogen and Ivy’s academic prowess.

“To receive such high marks from a very testing challenge is something they can look back on with an enormous sense of pride, and everyone at Rydal Penrhos is thrilled with their efforts in this particular event, in addition to the overall contribution each of them is making throughout our wonderful school community.”
