Team RP claims second spot at UK Maths Trust's Team Challenge

A number of schools from across the region descended on Rydal Penrhos for a special academic event.

The school hosted the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust’s Team Challenge at the newly refurbished Sixth Form Ferguson Centre, with teams from across North Wales, Cheshire and the North West in attendance.

During the competition, each team were tasked with successfully completing a series of different tasks designed by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust under the support and guidance of teaching staff and members of the school’s Sixth Form Prefect team.

The ever-popular relay round will make a welcome return and promises to once again be a huge deciding factor in the overall outcome, and after a hugely competitive day of action the team from Moreton Hall took away the prize by the narrowest of margins to secure a place in the national finals.

The Rydal Penrhos team of Zac Roberts, Henry Battersby, Ester Ball-Iverson and Lily Davies finished second thanks to their sterling efforts, with Ysgol Friars rounding off the podium places in third spot.

Senior School Head Sally Ann Harding, said: “We were delighted to host the UKMT’s Team Challenge once again, and well done to all that took part.

“Zac, Lily, Ester and Henry did incredibly well from a Rydal Penrhos perspective, displaying the sort of teamwork and problem-solving skills that will stand them in good stead for the remainder of their education and indeed their later life.”
