A host of talented swimmers are in the final stages of preparation ahead of a prestigious national competition.
The school will once again be well represented at the Urdd National Gala Finals, which are set to be held in Cardiff on Saturday, January 21 and Sunday 22.
Among the qualifiers from the regional heat were Finlay Hare, who produced a fabulous effort to win the Year 9/10 boys’ freestyle race, while lower sixth pupils Samiya Garrod and Mollie Smithfield will also be striving for gold at the event.
Another tipped for success is Zach Speakman, who took both the butterfly and individual medley races to reach the national showcase.
In addition to the individual success, a pair of relay teams will make the trip to south Wales, with the Year 9 and 10 boys’ relay squad, the Year 9 and 10 girls’ freestyle relay team and the Year 7/8 relay team consisting of Osca Clark, Josh Peevor, Tom Hughes and John Williams also booking their place.
Head of Swimming Maciej Ruszkowski, said: “Training has been going really well and we are very hopeful of putting in a very strong performance at the Urdd finals.
“We have had an enormous amount of success in the competition in recent years, so we are very hopeful that we can bring some medals back with us in what is sure to be a hotly contested event.”
