Aspiring skiers at Rydal Penrhos turned in another fantastic performance to secure notable success on the national stage.
The squad made the long trip to Llangranog to compete at the Welsh Schools’ Championships, looking to continue their stunning recent success in the competition over recent years under the expert leadership of programme leader and Head of Science Dave Robson.
There were a host of impressive individual successes in the boys’ events, with Ben Davies leading the way with first in the U16 category and first overall in the non-registered racers event to round off an incredible competition from the sports scholar.
August Ball-Iverson picked up second place in the U14 competition, and together with standout showing from Will Rutherford and Chay Bonnington it enabled Rydal Penrhos to finish in the silver medal position and secure qualification to the British Championships in Scotland in the coming weeks.
The girls’ team also managed to secure some outstanding times, with Keira Bonnington and Ester Ball-Iverson finishing first in the U18 and U16 events, with Johanna Pieper coming in second position in the U16 competition.
Despite these excellent individual performances, the team missed out on qualification for the British Championships by a single place.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Our skiing squad have achieved an incredible amount in their relatively short time together as a group, and it was fantastic to see their hard work and willingness to learn pay off with an excellent set of performances at the Welsh Championships.
“Each member of the squad can be enormously proud of their achievements in the face of some stern competition, and we wish those going to the British Championships the very best of luck with their preparations.”
