A Preparatory School skiing sensation continued his exceptional run of recent results at a high-profile competition.
Xavier Poynton, a Year 2 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, took part in the U10 boys’ category at the Ambition Pro Tour earlier this month.
The seven-year-old defied his age to achieve a podium finish, turning in a series of impressive runs to eventually finish in third spot despite being one of the youngest competing in the category.
This earned him a medal and a 25 per cent bursary to the upcoming Taster Week in Kitzsteinhorn in Austria ahead of his participation with the Academy, which selects the best young prospects from across the country.
Xavier earned his place on the programme by impressing during a special camp, and is the youngest in the United Kingdom to be selected.
It has been a memorable few months on the slopes for the pupil, who has taken full advantage of the opportunity to ski at Rydal Penrhos, and has already achieved a plethora of regional and national success in what has been a glittering young career to date.
Head of Boys’ Games Jamie McLeod, said: “This is yet another standout performance from Xavier, who has quickly emerged into one of the most exciting young prospects anywhere in the country.
“He is absolutely fearless and consistently holds his own against older and more experienced opposition, something that can give him an enormous amount of confidence as he looks to develop further as part of the Ambition Racing squad.”
