Sixth Former Sara wins coveted double at Speech Day

A talented Sixth Former scooped a pair of awards for her impressive contribution during the final year of her school life.

Sara Owen, a Year 13 pupil at the school, achieved the notable double at Rydal Penrhos’ annual Speech Day event, which took place at New Field on Saturday, May 26.

The 18-year-old began her successes by picking up the Foster/Redgrave Cup for Contribution to the Musical Life of the School thanks to her sterling efforts under the guidance of department director Peter Williams during various concerts put on throughout the academic year.

This was further reflected in her outstanding Grading achievements from her Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music examinations, which further highlight her immense promise within the subject.

She followed up this triumph with the Elwyn Jones Prize for Personal Development, receiving the accolades from Old Rydalian and special guest speaker Flt Lt Nathan Jones.

Sara has developed a significant amount throughout the academic year thanks to her determination in the face of adversity, and she has set her sights on a place at medical school providing she achieves the necessary A-level grades this summer.

Head of Sixth Form Peter Lavery, said: “Sara is a fantastic young woman who is going to go on and achieve great things thanks to her drive and the foundation she has received here at Rydal Penrhos.

“She is a very valued member of both the Sixth Form community and the school as a whole, and she is going to be sorely missed by staff and pupils alike when she begins the next stage of her journey later this year.”
