Sixth form pupils at Rydal Penrhos got a lesson in wellbeing at a recent day-long event.
The school held a special PHSE Day for the group before the festive break on Wednesday, December 14, and the morning began with an interactive presentation by Dr Alys Cole-King, liaison psychiatrist and specialist in suicide prevention at Connecting with People.
The session focused on emotional resilience and examined ways of dealing with the pressures that young people often find themselves under.
Following this there was another presentation from Mr Clive Wolfendale, Chief Executive of CAIS, who gave an informative talk on substance abuse. Pupils also received a powerful message through a colleague of Mr Wolfendale, who described her previous addictions to drugs and subsequent recovery.
Pupils had the option of two sessions in the afternoon, choosing from Self-Defence, Yoga, Meditation, Mindfulness and Music Therapy; a well-deserved relaxing afternoon at the end of another busy term.
Head of Sixth Form Pete Lavery, said: “Having surveyed the Sixth form at the end of last year on their preferences for PSHE themes, it was pleasing to be able to respond to their wishes and engage some of our parents and expert staff in providing a rich and varied day.”
