Sean scoops Director of Drama Award for Outstanding Performance

A talented actor at Rydal Penrhos has been rewarded for another exceptional year on stage with a high-profile award.

Sean Hughes, a Year 13 pupil at the school, took home the Director of Drama Award for Outstanding Performance from the second annual Creative and Performing Arts dinner prior to the Easter break.

It has been another exceptional year for the Upper Sixth Former, who has proven his invaluable presence within the school’s thriving Drama provision both during his A-level work and with the Dramatic Society.

This culminated in his truly exceptional portrayal of leading man Jean Valjean during the production of Les Misérables, which was performed over three sold-out nights last month.

Sean, who joined the Rydal Penrhos community as a Year 7 pupil in 2012, received his award from Senior School Head Sally Ann Harding and has also played an important role in a wealth of concerts throughout the academic year.

He is also a gifted sportsman in areas such as Athletic and Rugby, in addition to earning regional representative honours with RGC U16s.

Mrs Harding, said: “There is nobody more deserving of this award than Sean, who has such a natural presence on stage and a sensational tone to his voice.

“His performance as Jean Valjean was absolutely incredible and was further evidence of the incredible progress he has made from a Performing Arts perspective under the guidance and support of Mrs Crimes, Mrs Jones and the rest of our dedicated and passionate staff team.”
