A group of aspiring sailors continued their excellent development on the water at a recent event.
Members of Rydal Penrhos’ sailing squad travelled to Sedbergh School for the Northern Prep School’s Regatta, with all three teams performing well against other young talent from across the region.
The day started with a round robin between all teams to sort out a Gold Fleet and Silver Fleet categories – with the Rydal Penrhos A team of Fflur Pierce, Keira Luke and Ellie Knight making a strong start.
The B team of Freddie MacLaverty, Zac Roberts and James Mann were also among the leading contenders in the opening exchanges, with the trio reacting well to the blustering conditions that severely test each sailor’s abilities.
Rydal Penrhos C, which consisted of Jaydon Blears, Will Glanville, Louis Walkden-Williams, Ed Altoft and Lucy Ranales-Griffiths, competed in the Silver Fleet and managed to secure a third-place finish overall during a closely fought affair.
The A and B squads were put in the Gold Fleet and they managed to finish fourth and third respectively after narrowly missing out on the overall crown.
Prep School Head Alison Hind, said: “This was another very encouraging performance from out young sailing squad, who continue to gain valuable experiences in a competitive environment that has proven to be a very worthwhile asset in terms of their overall development.
“They have been a credit to themselves and our sailing provision during the initial stages of a very busy series of competitions, and hopefully this is a trend that can continue going forward.”
