A pair of talented sailors at Rydal Penrhos put in a good performance at a regional club event recently.
Kevin and Liam Farrell, Year 10 and 6 pupils at the school, produced a fine effort at Llandudno Sailing Club’s Easter Tankard competition over the end of term break.
The weather was again kind to the sailors with a steady breeze for the oldest trophy at the club, which saw a host of talented sailors battle it out in a series of races to determine the overall winner.
The brother duo turned in a memorable effort despite competing against older and more experienced opposition, which resulted in them claiming the second race in their RS Feva boat to set up a final race showdown with competition favourite Paul Moreton.
Moreton’s efficiency on the upwind legs proved to be superior to the Feva’s downwind speed and he took first place and the Tankard, with Kevin and Liam in second.
This is the latest in a long line of successes for the Farrell family, who have excelled throughout academic and co-curricular life at Rydal Penrhos’ Prep and Senior sites.
Both Kevin and Liam were also part of the RS Feva UK Class National Squad for their winter programme after performing well throughout the selection process.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “To be competing so well at a very early age is a testament to Kevin and Liam’s cohesion as a unit, and the talent they have to perform consistently well in what can be a testing environment.
“Hopefully this is the start of another successful sailing season for the Farrell family and we wish them well in the weeks and months ahead.”
