On the back of a great performance against Birkenhead last weekend the u13a team started in similar form with some great passing in the midfield resulting in a tries for George Watkins and Kosi Iwobi on the wings.
But we found out Packwood weren't a push over and they came back very strongly with unrelenting tackling in defence and determination to win the ball at every breakdown.
After a shaky 10 minutes we found our feet again and started to put some phases together. Llion Morris, Christian Cheesley, Freddie James, Kosi and Max Cowen-Wright deserve recognition for their work rate throughout the match.
We went through phases of good play, being able to retain the ball for long period of time and make good process against a strong defence. But also went through phased of indiscipline and laziness giving up too many penalties and not supporting the runner.
The 1st XV went 12-0 down v Shrewsbury on Saturday before pulling back to lead 14-12 through two Tomos Davies tries converted by Will Lynch.
Yet again, errors coupled with indiscipline cost us dearly with Gardner visiting the sin bin for the second time in two games. The visitors capitalised and hard running from their 12 and 15 caused us resulted in Shrewsbury keeping their score board ticking over while we struggled to maintain possession.
Two tries in the dying minutes somewhat flattered Shrewsbury with the final score being 43-14 while 31-14 would have been a much fairer reflection on the game.
We must learn to “control the controllables” going into the last three games of the season if we are to get some more wins on the board.
