Young rugby stars at Rydal Penrhos turned in a sensational performance to advance to the next round of a regional competition.
The school’s U16 side took on Hilbre School in the Cheshire Cup and turned in an extremely efficient display on both sides of the ball to come away with a convincing 60-5 victory.
There were a host of outstanding individual performances during a truly exceptional team display, with the talented pair of Josh Lynch and Sam Bixby continuing their superb run of recent form with a hat-trick apiece which played a huge contributing factor in Rydal Penrhos’ progression.
Another to benefit from some sensational ball movement was George Smith-Edwards, who helped himself to a bracer during the success, with Tom Hughes and Adrian Lewis also crossing the white wash to round off the scoring.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “This was one the most ruthless performance I have seen at Rydal Penrhos yet, matching the 1st XV’s defeat of Hilbre School in Sept 2016 and the 1st VII’s defeat of Bishop Heber in the Cheshire 7s in March 2017.
“It was an excellent squad effort and a really pleasing performance but it is no coincidence that many of the squad frequent the performance centre and thanks to Mr Tuck and Mr Trickey for their hard work with them this season.
“It was also pleasing to see some of the less established squad members growing in confidence and rising to the occasion. Our attacking has improved significantly and well done to all involved.”
