Rugby: Sean Lonsdale back in RGC fold for historic Wales clash

A former Rydal Penrhos pupil is set for a sensational return to the RGC fold for their clash against Wales.

Sean Lonsdale, who spent five years at the school from 2011-2015, has been named in the Gogs’ squad for their highly anticipated fixture against the national side, which will be played in-front of a sold out crowd at Parc Eirias on Friday, June 2.

The 19-year-old, who spent last season in the English system with Exeter Chiefs and Cornish Pirates, came through the ranks at the North Wales development region side and is regarded as one of the best players ever produced by the club’s Academy, which is run in partnership with Rydal Penrhos and the Welsh Rugby Union.

A number of other former pupils are also expected to be named in the squad for the WRU National Cup winners for the contest, which will also be shown live on S4C.

RGC Head coach Mark Jones, said: "It's a huge honour for the whole squad to be able to pit ourselves against Wales on our home turf.

“We want to be as competitive as possible in order to help Wales prepare for their summer tour and these extra players will give us some important strength in depth in key positions, both in training and for the match itself.

"They all have strong links to RGC, either as former players or with family ties and it's fantastic to have them on board. It's an exciting time for North Wales rugby."
