Two aspiring rugby stars at Rydal Penrhos continued their development with encouraging performance as part of their involvement with North Wales regional side RGC.
Tomos Davies and Sam Bixby, Upper Sixth Form and Year 11 pupils at the school, were involved for Gogs’ U18 and U16 squad for their Regional Age Grade Championship contests against Dragons on Sunday, September 16.
Forward Sam started for the U16s, who managed to secure a creditable 14-14 draw with their South Wales opponents, going ahead early on before being pegged back late on.
RGC U16 head coach Gav Hodgkinson, said: “You could clearly at the end from their reaction see how frustrated the players were with the result.
“The fact that they were so disappointed just shows how far they have come and the standards that they now expect of themselves.
“Overall we are delighted with the progress made by the boys who have shown a fantastic attitude throughout. We now have two weeks off before we come back and start prepping for our fixtures in the New Year.”
Tomos, who is part of the Rydal Penrhos Rugby Academy programme which is run in partnership with RGC and the Welsh Rugby Union, was part of the Gogs’ U18 side that fell to a 36-22 defeat on their travels.
Despite the defeat it was a positive display from the group, who pulled it back within two with 11 minutes remaining before hosts pulled away late on.
