A talented rugby star at Rydal Penrhos has won a call-up to a Regional Development Squad.

Josh Lynch, a Year 9 pupil at the school, has been selected for the RGC U15 squad that will take on Pembrokeshire Schools in Bangor on Friday, September 22.

This is the latest in a long line of successes for the sports scholar, aged 13, who has seen his progress aided considerably thanks to his involvement with the Sale Sharks Rugby Developing Player Programme, which he earned a place on earlier this year.

The European Junior Weightlifting Champion, who holds a plethora of national records and has been tipped for future Olympic honours by his coach Harry Mysangyi, will now look to add to the fine tradition of RGC players that have emerged from Rydal Penrhos, which has produced a number of internationals and senior squad members thanks to their Academy partnership, which is also run in conjunction with the Welsh Rugby Union.

The latest of these was Dan Owen, who scored his first senior try in their win over Aberavon last weekend and was capped four times by Wales U18s in the spring.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Josh has shown an enormous amount of potential and he is thoroughly deserving of his call-up to the RGC U15 side.

“The work he is putting in with our coaches and those at Sale have aided his development considerably, and hopefully this will help him make a significant impact in what is his first appearance in an RGC shirt.”
