Rugby: Freddie appointed vice-captain for current campaign

A talented Preparatory School rugby player has been given a position of leadership ahead of a busy period of fixtures.

Freddie Barrington-Chance, a Year 6 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, has been appointed as the Prep School’s vice-captain for the current campaign thanks to his exceptional recent displays and ability to communicate and motivate on the field.

The 11-year-old has made a lasting impression on all areas of Prep School life since arriving as a Year 5 pupil in 2018, with his efforts from an academic and sporting perspective drawing significant praise from Rydal Penrhos’ dedicated staff team.

He will now work with captain Cieran Milligan during a very busy series of matches throughout the spring term, with the undoubted highlight being the annual Cooper Cup contest with Colwyn Bay, where Rydal Penrhos are aiming for a fifth consecutive win over the two-leg competition.

Head of Boys’ Games Jamie McLeod, said: “Freddie quickly emerged as one of the key figures within the U11 rugby squad, and he is going to thrive in his role as vice-captain.

“He is an enormously talented individual who motivates other considerably as part of a team, and these are traits that are sure to stand him in good stead in his new role.

“It has been a very encouraging start to the season and hopefully this is a trend that can continue as they develop their skills further.”
