A number of Rydal Penrhos’ young rugby stars were part of the Colwyn Bay U12 side that achieved success at a high-profile tournament.
No fewer than five pupils were part of the Bay side that finished runners-up at the International Mini Rugby Series, which was held in the Lake District earlier this month.
Josh Stewart, James Copeland, Cal Earle, Chay Bonnington and Henry Battersby, all Year 7 pupils at the school, were just one try away from winning the two day competition after impressing considerably throughout the event.
One of the games saw the Bay team run in 17 tries during an 85-0 demolition of a team from Motherwell, who the boys were sharing a Youth Hostel with.
James scored a hat-trick during the success, with Josh and Cal helping themselves to a brace of tries apiece.
Although he made the tour, Chay was unable to play after tumbling from his scooter and damaging his knee while trying to perfect a new trick at the Eirias Skate Park the day before they left.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “The boys all represented themselves and the regional exceptionally throughout the tournament, and to finish second in the face of such strong opposition is a fantastic achievement.”
