Rugby: Danny wins RGC's Young Player of the Year honour

A Rugby Academy graduate received recognition for a fantastic season with RGC 1404.

Danny Cross, who left Rydal Penrhos in 2015, enjoyed a fabulous campaign for the Principality Premiership side and contributed significantly to Mark Jones’ men securing an eighth-placed finish in the top flight.

The powerful back put behind his niggling injury problems that have hampered his progression in recent years, producing a series of exceptional displays to highlight his importance to the senior squad.

This resulted in Cross scooping the Young Player of the Year Award at RGC’s end of season presentation evening, which took place following their final day victory over runners-up Cardiff at Stadiwm Zip World in Colwyn Bay.

This is the latest in a series of outstanding accolades from the former pupil, who earned representative honours with the Wales u18 squad during his time at Rydal Penrhos, where he travelled to South Africa and played against South Africa Schools, Italy, and South Africa A.

He was also part of the Wales U20 set-up for their Six Nations schedule in 2015.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Danny has proven his talent this season with a consistent run of games, and he was a worthy winner of RGC’s Young Player of the Year honour.

“He is another fine product of our Rugby Academy programme here at Rydal Penrhos, which has produced plenty of senior squad members for RGC and other talented individuals who are making a considerable impact at high-profile professional teams across the country.”
