Rugby: Cieran helps North East Wales squad secure national final berth

A Preparatory School rugby star helped a regional squad secure a national competition final berth.

Cieran Milligan, a Year 6 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, formed part of the North East Wales Schools’ U11 side that took on Newport in a hotly contested semi-final clash that was evenly poised at one try apiece at the break.

The Prep School rugby captain performed exceptionally well throughout as the squad dug deep to secure an impressive 5-3 victory over their southern counterparts, and they will now take on Rhymney Valley at Llanidloes RFC on Thursday in a bid to achieve their first championship in 20 years.

This is the latest in a long line of achievements for Cieran, who also played a significant part in the squad’s rise to prominence throughout the competition to date.

He also skippered the Prep School to their fifth straight Cooper Cup victory against Colwyn Bay to further enhance his growing reputation.

Head of Boys’ Games Jamie McLeod, said: “This is another notable achievement for Cieran and one that he can be rightfully proud of.

“He is emerging as a real leader on the rugby field and has an ability beyond his hears in terms of motivating others around him, and everyone at Rydal Penrhos wishes Cieran and the North East Wales U11 Schools’ squad the very best of luck in the national final on Thursday.”
