Rugby 7s: U18 and U16 sides take aim at Rossyn Park competition success

Rydal Penrhos’ most senior rugby 7s squads will go in search of national recognition at a high-profile competition this week.

The school’s U18 and U16 teams will make the long trip to London for the Rosslyn Park 7s competition, which has evolved into the world's largest school rugby tournament with around 7,000 boys and girls aged 13-18 competing annually.

The U18 squad have been drawn in Group O alongside Royal Grammar School, Newcastle, King Edward’s Whitley, Canford School and Gravesend Grammar School for Boys as they attempt to reach the knockout stages of the competition.

Rydal Penrhos’ U16 side are set to square off against Wellington College, Sutton Valence School, Mount St Mary’s College and John Fisher School in Group P on Wednesday, March 27.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Our U18 and U16 sides have enjoyed a fine 7s campaign so far, so hopefully they can give account of themselves in what is unquestionably the most prestigious competition in the country.

“The standard is always incredibly high and it is a fantastic experience for our aspiring players against some very strong opposition.”

U18 squad: Joe Gardener, William Lynch, Finlay Hare, Tomos Davies, Jake Palmer-Reid, Michael Thomas, Jamie Rogerson, Nils Memmi-Bonstrom, Mason Clark, Theo Bryant.

U16 squad: Sam Bixby, Theo Bryant, Dylan Craddock, Joshua Doyle, Aydan Garrod, George Smith-Edwards, Adrian Lewis, Eddie Hackman, Thomas Hughes, Baptiste Mazars, Finlay Hare, Rhys Seenan.
