Rana achieves notable double at Chester Festival

A talented Preparatory School vocalist gained plaudits thanks to a pair of exceptional performances at a prestigious regional competition.

Rana Abou-Samra, a Year 5 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, was part of a large contingent that competed at the recent Chester Festival, and she managed to secure two outstanding accolades as a result of her efforts.

The ten-year-old performed exceptionally well against some of the best young singers in the region, and managed to receive a Distinction in the U11 singing competition following a fine performance that brought significant praise from the judging panel.

She followed this up with another impressive display in the Folk Singing competition, where Rana was commended for her contribution to the showcase.

Rana received her certificates and a genrous round of appluase from Deputy Head Alison Hind at the school's final assembly before the half term break on Friday, May 25.

Mrs Hind, said: “Rana is a very talented singer who demonstrates tremendous composure on stage despite her relatively young age, and she can be enormously proud of her achievements at the Chester Festival, which is regarded as one of the biggest events anywhere in the region.

“Hopefully this will fill her will plenty of confidence as Rana looks to achieve further success in the future, and everyone at Rydal Penrhos is thrilled with the progress she is making under the superb guidance of Director of Music Pete Williams and teacher Richard Davies.”
