In the lead-up to our Open Morning events in April, we will be taking a look at the pupils that make Rydal Penrhos such a fantastic place to live and learn.
The latest Senior School pupil under the spotlight is Kevin Farrell:
- Name: Kevin Farrell
- Year group: Year 10
- Pupil status: Day
- House: Payne
Kevin is the middle brother of the hugely successful Farrell family trio, and he is a fantastic young man who has an enormous amount of potential in a wide range of different subjects and co-curricular activities.
The 14-year-old has developed into a valued member of the school community thanks to the hard work he is putting in with Rydal Penrhos’ staff across all areas since enrolling as a Year 3 pupil in 2010.
His exploits on the water with brother Eddie are nothing short of outstanding, with the pair crowned Irish RS Feva Open Champions and even finished 23rd in the Gold Fleet at the RS Feva World Championships.
He has also achieved success with younger brother Liam, with the pair selected to the RS Feva UK Class National Squad for their winter programme after performing well throughout the selection process.
They are also competing against older and vastly more experienced opposition at Llandudno Sailing Club this summer, and have also enhanced their growing reputation as a pair at events such as the Salisbury Series.
The Payne House member is also a very strong academic that was recognised for his exceptional contribution to all areas of school life last year with a Headmaster’s Award from Mr Simon Smith.
Kevin achieved national recognition last year as part of the school’s Rotary International Youth Speaks competition, where he qualified for the national finals alongside Sydney Johnson and Cerys Cuddihy
He is also an exceptional musician who has developed his skills significantly under the guidance of department director Pete Williams, which has seen him secure a number of outstanding grading accolades from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
His contribution to the various concerts put on by Rydal Penrhos throughout the year is significant, and Kevin also helped the school’s U16 boys’ hockey side defend their North Wales championship with a sterling effort.
Rydal Penrhos will be holding Senior and Prep Open Morning events on Friday, April 26 and Saturday 27 from 9.30am, and to book your place contact Admissions Officer Jenny Marsden on 01492 530155 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
