Pupil Profiles: Grace Watkins

In the lead-up to our Open Morning events in April, we will be taking a look at the pupils that make Rydal Penrhos such a fantastic place to live and learn.

The latest Prep School pupil under the spotlight is Grace Watkins.

  • Name: Grace Watkins
  • Year group: Year 6
  • Pupil status: Prep
  • House: Snowdon

While brother George is thriving at Rydal Penrhos’ senior site, the same can be said for Grace Watkins at our Prep School.

The nine-year-old has contributed enormously to a multitude of areas of school life since she enrolled as a Year 1 pupil in 2013, and has also taken advantage of the wealth of co-curricular opportunities offered at Rydal Penrhos and throughout the North Wales region.

Her academic potential is substantial, with the Year 5 pupil benefitting from the support given to her by staff to excel in a number of different subjects, including Maths, History and English.

Grace has also been rising through the Prep School’s Spelling Challenge at a rapid rate, which is an initiative designed to increase the vocabulary of each pupil and enhance their learning.

Alongside fellow pupil Maggie McDuff, Grace also recently joined the Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts in Llandudno and has a huge impression in her relatively short time with the group.

She was appointed as a captain at the Academy after demonstrating impressive leadership skills at the various sessions she has taken part in, and made her stage debut at a special event in Rhos on Sea.

The talented vocalist has also played a significant role in the wide-ranging concerts put on by Rydal Penrhos throughout the academic year, and she has also developed a great deal in a sporting environment under the guidance of Head of Girls’ Game Jude Pyves with the U10 Netball side, who have enjoyed a fine run of results in recent months.

If that wasn't enough, the budding cricketer has been taking part in Rydal Penrhos' winter nets programme with fantastic results, and has also achieved tournament success as part of the Mochdre youth set-up.

Rydal Penrhos will be holding Senior and Prep Open Morning events on Friday, April 26 and Saturday 27 from 9.30am, and to book your place contact Admissions Officer Jenny Marsden on 01492 530155 or email admissions@rydalpenrhos.com.
