In the lead-up to our Open Morning events in April, we will be taking a look at the pupils that make Rydal Penrhos such a fantastic place to live and learn.
The latest Prep School pupil under the spotlight is Freddie MacLaverty.
- Name: Freddie MacLaverty
- Year group: Year 6
- Pupil status: Prep
- House: Snowdon
Despite only being at the Prep School for a relatively short period of time, Freddie has wasted no time in firmly establishing himself as a beloved and valued member of the Rydal Penrhos community.
The nine-year-old has excelled under the guidance of Rydal Penrhos’ dedicated staff across all departments, while he has also achieve a plethora of co-curricular achievements since enrolling as a Year 3 pupil in 2015.
His most notable accolades have come in the sport of Sailing, which has seen him develop his skills significantly as part of the school’s thriving programme led by international competitor Max Todd.
Alongside classmates Fflur Pierce and Keira Luke, Freddie was part of the Great Britain team that competed at the RS Tera World Championships, and even had the distinction of carrying the flag during the opening ceremony as the youngest member of the team.
All three were also called-up to the RS Tera National Development after another season of consistent success, which was highlighted by Freddie’s coronation as the overall winner of the North Wales Club Youth Racing Circuit Series over the summer.
The pupil also contributed significantly to Rydal Penrhos’ Ski squad that claimed the North Wales Championships and performed well at the national event, while he has also developed his skills considerably in Football and Rugby thanks to the high-quality coaching provided by Rydal Penrhos.
Freddie is also producing some very strong academic results in subjects such as Science, and has even tried his hand at the performing arts in the form of the Year 4 play ‘Bombs and Blackberries’ last spring thanks to another fantastic opportunity provided by the Prep School.
The future is very bright for this hard-working pupil with the world at his feet on the water.
