In the lead-up to our Open Morning events in April, we will be taking a look at the pupils that make Rydal Penrhos such a fantastic place to live and learn.
The latest Prep School pupil under the spotlight is Agatha Favill.
- Name: Agatha Favill
- Year group: 2018 Leaver
- Pupil status: Prep
- House: Brecon
Despite her relatively young age, Agatha is a prime example of what can be achieved when you make the most of every opportunity that comes your way, which she has done fully since enrolling as a Nursery child in 2012.
Her exploits on the slopes have been well documented, with Agatha one of many that are thriving under the guidance of the school’s programme which is run with instructors at Llandudno’s dry slope.
This has culminated in a plethora of competition successes, which saw the pupil help Rydal Penrhos’ young squad qualify for the Welsh Schools’ Championships following an exceptional performance during the regional heat.
Agatha was also part of the contingent that travelled to Italy over the half term break, where she honed her skills further at a special Ski School organised by Head of Boys’ Games Jamie McLeod.
Her development with Head of Sailing Max Todd and his team of coaches has also been considerable, with Agatha rewarded for her progression with a call-up to the RYA North Wales Optimist squad for their winter camp after impressing selectors at a number of events across the region, and she was also part of the school’s Swimming squad that qualified for the Urdd National Gala and achieved team gold at a recent IAPS event.
She is a very keen academic who is always searching for alternative ways of learning, as was demonstrated by her 20-mile bike ride between Dolgellau and Barmouth during the holidays, where Agatha in a variety of sites on the scenic path and also got the chance to find about more about the region’s rich history.
This included learning about old railways, ship-building and the numerous estuarine birds along the way.
