Rugby stars past and present will be battling it out for bragging rights during one of the most prominent weekends on the Rydal Penrhos calendar.
The school’s annual Vikings game will be held over Founders’ Weekend on Sunday, September 16 and will be taking on a new short-game, round-robin format for the first time.
A host of former Rugby Academy stars will be making a welcome return to New Field, with six teams all set to play each other with a view to securing the overall crown.
Harrison Holmes will captain a 2012 leavers’ side that consists of brother Harvey, Liam Harvey, Harry Ormerod and the supremely talented RGC full-back Dion Jones.
The 2016 leavers’ squad is littered with talented individuals with a wealth of top-flight experience. Skipper Euan Humphreys, ex-Head Boy Adam Sabri, Nick Dundee, Danny Evans, Henry Maitland-Davies and Josh Jones are all hugely successful graduates of the school’s Rugby Academy programme, with former Welsh U18 internationals and current RGC senior squad members Dan Owen and Efan Jones also included in the line-up.
Talented individuals Henry Williams, Harry Dean and Ben Squibb will also take their place in the 2016 squad.
James Dudley will lead another 2012 leavers’ side that consists of former Newport Gwent Dragons star Pat Leach, brother and RGC stalwart Josh and tennis coach Craig Stock, with a 2010 leavers’ squad also boasting plenty of talent and could surprise a few as the tournament progresses.
The evergreen Andy Lee will lead a 1971 leavers’ squad that features Paul Dundee, Marcus Copeland and Aron Owen, and Rydal Penrhos’ current first XI will also be sending a team that will be captained by Jack Jones.
The competition is set to start at 11am and will be followed by a barbecue at 1.30pm.
