A host of Preparatory School musicians came away with accolades from a prestigious event.
Rydal Penrhos’ Senior and Prep Schools sent a large contingent to the Chester Music Festival, which was held on Saturday, May 6.
There were a large number of successes throughout the day, which included a first place for Caitriona Searl in the U15 Harp Solo category.
The Year 6 pupil, who has accepted an Academic and Music scholarship next year, also claimed second prize in the U17 vocal duet alongside Arthur Hind despite competing against far older and more experienced opposition.
Classmate Martha Hind came away with the U12 Recorder Solo crown, while Anna Heyes produced a fine effort to scoop the Novice Woodwind title.
The school’s Treble Makers Choir finished just two points shy of first place as they finished runner-up in the Year 6 and Under School Choir event, and Llion Morris also earned himself a second placed finish in the Grade One/Two String category.
Other notable achievements came from Zack Coverley, who finished third in the U8 Piano Solo, with Fflur Pierce and Rana Abou-Samra both receiving “Commended” grades in the U9 Piano and Fol Singing respectively.
Rounding off a fine day of honours was Eleanor Tunstall, who earned a merit in the competitive U11 Piano Solo event.
