James Gilman has been appointed Preparatory School swimming captain for the current season.
It has already been a very successful first few weeks in the role for the Head Boy and Year 6 pupil, who guided the squad to a strong showing at the Urdd National Gala in Cardiff last month.
There were a number of impressive performances throughout the competition, with Matthew Johnson finishing in tenth spot in the 50m Backstroke event in a time of 46.99.
Nathan Richards finished 12th in the 25m freestyle (20.49), while Liam Farrell broke the one minute mark on his way to 16th in the 50m Butterfly.
The Prep School relay sides also performed well, with Jorgie Lynch, Jorvan Toor, Dominic Chamberlain and Richards narrowly missing out on a podium finish after coming fifth in the Boys’ Freestyle event.
Ellie Knight, Lily Copeland, Lynch and Richards also came fifth in the mixed relay, while Martha Rose Johnson, Copeland, Knight and Agatha Favill secured eighth in the Girls’ Medley relay.
Rounding off the entries were the Boys’ Medley relay team of Johnson, James Gilman, Cieran Milligan and Farrell, who clocked a time of 1:26.61 to seal seventh place, and Johnson, Farrell, Ethan Akroyd and Will Rutherford finished ninth in the freestyle relay.
Head of Swimming Maciej Ruszkowski, said: “James is a well-respected figure within the Prep School and is looked up to by his peers and younger members of the school community.
“His leadership qualities were a huge asset to have at the Urdd Gala and hopefully this can continue in the coming months.”
