New spacious Richards Room exhibition highlights RP's rich history

Rydal Penrhos’ archive exhibition has received a significant upgrade following a move to its new home.

The Richards Room is now situated in the old Lower School House, providing it with more space to showcase the school’s rich and proud history before, during and after the merger between Rydal Mount and Penrhos College.

The new facility was transformed over the summer months by the school’s exceptionally hard-working maintenance team, and it was officially opened during Founders’ Weekend as the Rydal Penrhos community came together at the site to take a trip down memory lane.

There is plenty of unique material residing in the Richards Room, which gives those visiting a fantastic insight into the life and times at Rydal Penrhos from inception to present day.

Some of the school’s most recognisable and famous faces are documented, in addition to a complete list and history of those that have influenced Rydal Penrhos to shape the current landscape of the facility.

Among the most treasured artefacts include a Welsh international rugby shirt worn by former pupil and “The Prince of Centres”, Bleddyn Williams, as well as a large number of uniforms work by those that attended the school in decades gone by.

Deputy Head Tim Cashell, said: “We are rightfully proud of our incredibly detailed history at Rydal Penrhos, which further outlines just what a significant role the school has played both throughout the region and beyond.

“Our maintenance team did a superb job of putting it together, and the bigger exhibition will give those visiting the perfect chance to see for themselves the true story behind Rydal Penrhos and the fantastic education we provide.”
