One of the key tenets of the School’s vision is ‘Leading successfully’ and with this in mind, three committees have just been formed in Lower School, each committee having two members from each form in Years 7 and 8.
These are to be led by teams of pupils from Years 12 & 13, and overseen by Mrs Murphy, the Head of Lower School, and Mrs Seenan, a Year 8 Tutor.
The Lower School pupils were voted into their roles by their peers, and because of the number putting themselves forward, presentations were often necessary to help in the voting process.
The Fundraising/Charity committee met for the first time last week with the purpose of finding ways to raise money, 50 per cent of which will go towards items the pupils would like for their new Lower School social base, the Ashcroft Room, and 50% towards a charity of their own choosing.
After deciding to run a stall at the upcoming Christmas Market, a first for Lower School, the conversation soon turned to how to raise money for start-up costs, with ideas ranging from table-tennis championships to a ‘wear your Christmas jumper’ afternoon.
There have also been inaugural meetings of the Eco Committee and Social Committee in recent days.
These leadership opportunities join the established roles of Form Captain and Lower School Council representatives, all of which come with a short job description.
Positions are generally held for a year, and with nearly 60% of Lower School pupils currently occupying a leadership role, this means every pupil will be able to have such an experience at some point during their time in Lower School.
