Netball: U11 side secure impressive win over Abbeygate College

Senior Preparatory School netballers turned in a fantastic display during a recent fixture against Abbey Gate College.

The Rydal Penrhos U11 side welcomed their opponents on Friday, January 25, and they produced a wonderful effort to come away with a convincing 17-3 triumph.

Despite the eventual result it was the visitors who drew first blood with the opening basket immediately following the start, which was swiftly followed by a leveller that came courtesy of Gracie Tavernor.

This provoked the home side into an impressive spell that saw them emerge from the first quarter with a 6-1 cushion, with Gracie scoring five more to take her tally for the afternoon to six.

Some outstanding defending from Head Girl Grace Watkins, Pippa Roberts, Sophie Edwards, Chloe Tillman-Lennon and Gracie kept their advantage intact throughout the second quarter, with some exceptional attacking play from Year 5 pupil Charlotte Payne and Fflur Pierce were other notable highlights of the overall performance.

Charlotte and Gracie netted two and one respectively in the third quarter, and this trend continued in the closing stages thanks to a hat-trick from Freya Berklay and a five from the clinical Keira Luke to round off the scoring.

The U9 side were also in action against Abbey Gate, and there were plenty of positives to take from a spirited defeat.

Prep School Head Alison Hind, said: “This was a marvellous team performance and one that can give our U11 side an enormous amount of confidence ahead of what is going to be a very busy season.”
