A group of Preparatory School netballers performed well at a regional event recently.
The U11 Rydal Penrhos side made the short trip to Ysgol Eirias to compete at the Urdd Conwy Championships on Friday, February 2, where they were looking to defend their crown after winning the competition last year.
They made a hugely impressive start to the tournament with a resounding 7-0 victory in their opening contests, which featured some impressive play from Jasmin Beckett-Donald, Cerys Williams, Elise Mazars and Keira Luke.
This was swiftly followed by a convincing 8-0 triumph in the second outing after standout efforts from Isabella Peevor, Fflur Pierce, captain Ella Northcott and Sophie Hall, and they concluded a sensational group stage with another 7-0 success to book their place in the semi-finals.
Despite another good display, the U11 side narrowly missed out on a final berth following a 1-0 loss, but the team still managed to secure third place from the event and received a certificate for their efforts at the Prep School’s weekly Celebration Assembly on Friday, February 9.
Deputy Head Alison Hind, said: “This was another very positive performance from the U11 side in what has been a fantastic season to date.
“Despite going into the tournament without shooter Gabriele Subkovaite through illness, the team still managed to record some impressive results thanks to their teamwork and commitment, with Year 5 pupils Keira, Sophie and Fflur contributing significantly.
“We have had some incredible success in the Urdd competition in recent years and congratulations go to each member of the team for their efforts.”
