Maths teacher Mr Thomas raises more than £800 from Charity Comedy Night

A staff member at Rydal Penrhos held a special comedy night to raise funds ahead of his tilt at the London Marathon next month.

Andy Thomas, a mathematics teacher at the school, held the evening on Saturday, March 17 to boost his overall total for the marathon, which he will run on Sunday, April 22.

A total of £830 was raised from the event, which featured Rob Thomas, winner of the UK Pun Championships this year and a finalist at the Reading Comedy Festival.

Also appearing throughout the night were Stephen Cook and Mark Williams, who has featured on the BBC Radio 4 New Comedy Award show and his performance was described as “a masterclass in observational comedy” by the Yorkshire Times.

He has raised more than £1,700 so far, with all proceeds going towards St Kenitgern Hospice in memory of Mr Thomas’ mother-in-law Pauline, who spent her final days at the facility almost a decade ago.

Mr Thomas, said: “The event had 90 people attend and we managed to raise a considerable amount, and I would like to thank everyone who came along and made the Comedy Night such a success.

“My amazing mother in law Pauline spent her last days there nearly ten years ago. Pauline was an amazing wife, mum, gran and friend.”
