Malina awarded Michael S James IB Scholarship Cup

A Sixth Form pupil at Rydal Penrhos has been honoured for her exceptional academic contribution with a special award.

Malina Keil, a Year 13 pupil at the school, received the International Baccalaureate Scholarship Cup from former pupil and special guest speaker Dr Victoria Galbraith at the school’s Speech Day event.

The cup is named in memory of former Principal Michael James, who took up the position in April 1999 and was given the responsibility to effect the merger of both Rydal and Penrhos College.

He gave up his role in 2007 and had a huge impact on the school during his time at the helm, with Mr James passing away due to Motor Neurone disease in 2009.

Malina has enjoyed a fantastic time at Rydal Penrhos and has thrived during her IB studies, which was further recognised with the Biology, Economics, German A Literature and Mathematics prizes from the celebration.

She also managed to secure a Highly Commended score from the British (International) Biology Olympiad, which is open to students in post-16 education studying at school or college.

Senior School Head Sally Ann Harding, said: “Malina has dedicated herself exceptionally well throughout her International Baccalaureate studies, and she is thoroughly deserving of this year’s Michael S James IB Scholarship Cup.

“Her efforts with our incredible staff team have been extremely pleasing indeed, and hopefully this will transcend into a good examination score later this year.”
