Lower Sixth praised for efforts during annual Leadership course

Lower Sixth form pupils at Rydal Penrhos took part in a series of activities as part of an ongoing initiative.

The school held its annual Leadership Course over two days for the year group, which took place at a number of different sites throughout the region on Tuesday, June 26 and Wednesday 27.

The event kicked-off with a talk from Sixth Form head Peter Lavery regarding legacy, before they embarked on a challenge based on the popular TV Show Dragon’s Den.

They were also challenged with some problem-solving activities designed to improve cohesion and teamwork at a picturesque Beecholme Boarding House lawn, with another group descending to the swimming pool for a Kayaking task.

This was followed by a treasure hunt around Rhos on Sea, where staff were situated throughout the area and needed to be located in order to complete the task.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd led a team during a session revolving around the sport of Ultimate Frisbee to begin day two, before the group split up into different teams and headed to Colwyn Bay beach.

During their time on the coastline, they were given two separate tasks; sculpting a masterpiece from sand and using materials provided to make a stretcher to carry each team member to the other side.

As a reward for their outstanding efforts, they got the chance to relax and socialise at a barbecue, with catering providers Holroyd Howe providing a lavish spread for the Lower Sixth form contingent and their tutors.

Mr Lavery, said: “Every single pupil worked incredibly hard throughout and their efforts should stand them in extremely good stead as they prepare for the challenges that lie ahead during the final year of their time at Rydal Penrhos in September.”
