Lower School pupils are set to enjoy an exciting new facility thanks to the latest development to improve the facilities at Rydal Penrhos.
Plans to move the Year7-8 base to the heartbeat of the school was announced by Headmaster Simon Smith, which will see the current archive, the Richards Room, become the groups new home.
Work is set to begin ion the site in the coming days ahead and is expected to be ready for the start of the academic year in September.
The new Lower School base will be named the Ashcroft Room in memory of C.W Ashcroft, who was Chair of Governors’ at Penrhos College from 1905-1925.
He also had a boarding house named after him at Penrhos and during the merger with Rydal School, which was used predominantly by Lower School pupils and has since become Hathaway.
The archives will be moved to the current Lower School site next to the Eton Fives Courts, which is set to improve visitor access and allow a greater amount of space to develop the facility.
Mr Smith, said: “This facility will allow the pupils to feel more centrally located, in a more attractive space, be closer to some important school facilities, lessen road crossing and it will also facilitate even closer supervision of our pupils.
“These moves along with the development of the catering facilities, the Ferguson Centre, the Grange and the Uniform Shop will, we believe, enhance our Senior School pupils' experience but also improve the overall quality and effectiveness of the campus for all members of the school community. Such moves are very much part of our "Living" and "Location" (two of our five Ls) programme.”
