As part of a special series of summer features, we turn our attention to our Year 6 pupils as we reflect on their accomplishments and get the perspective of departing Headmaster Roger McDuff.
The latest instalment features soon-to-be senior scholar Lily Davies:
It has been a sensational first year as part of the Rydal Penrhos community for Lily, who wasted no time in firmly establishing herself as a valuable member of the Year 6 group.
The 11-year-old is extremely gifted academically across all subjects, while also thriving in extra-curricular activities such as sport and drama.
This was recognised by staff at Rydal Penrhos’ senior site, where she will be joining from September after accepting an Academic scholarship.
There have been a host of highlights in Lily’s short time at the school, which include her performance of Nala in The Lion King and being part of the U11 netball side that reached the quarter-finals of the Urdd National Championships after winning the regional Conwy round.
In recognition of her sensation first academic year at Rydal Penrhos, Lily was awarded the Physical Education, Athletics, English and Welsh Prizes, along with a Scholarship Prize, and the 6EM Form Prize for achievement at the Prep School’s annual Speech Day earlier this month.
Mr McDuff, said: “Lily arrived here at the beginning of the year and soon showed us all that she is an extremely talented young lady.
“She is highly intelligent, a real all-rounder (as was seen with her wonderful performance in the Lion King).
“She is also a natural comedienne who has an ability to laugh at herself.
“The slight giggle she gave when leaning over Simba whilst trying to find her place in her script, whilst playing a different part, was evidence of her commitment, her enthusiasm and her great sense of humour.
“There is no doubt that Lily is going to be a huge asset to our senior school along with a host of other members of the Year 6 group.”
