As part of a special series of summer features, we turn our attention to our Year 6 pupils as we reflect on their accomplishments and get the perspective of departing Headmaster Roger McDuff.
The latest instalment features George Watkins:
There are few things that George has not been involved during his last academic year at the Prep School.
Always willing to get involved, the 11-year-old has been a huge part of life at Rydal Penrhos, and he will be looking to continue this in September when he joins the senior site on an Academic scholarship.
The gifted cricketer has led by example in his role as captain, while also contributing significantly to the success of Mochdre Cricket Club’s U11 side.
He continues to excel in the classroom with his efforts in mathematics coming in for significant praise, while his performances as a grown-up Simba in the Year 6 performance of The Lion King also drew widespread plaudits over two highly successful nights.
In recognition for his wonderful contribution in his final year at the Prep School, George received prizes for Cricket and Maths as well as a 6EM Form Prize for outstanding achievement at Rydal Penrhos’ annual Speech Day event earlier this year.
Mr McDuff, said: “George has grown into a delightful young man, and a rather tall one.
“In many ways he is the most typical of puppy dogs, who is growing up – endless energy, thoroughly enjoys playing around, and has successfully learnt where and when to perform.
“He is, and has been for some time, a maths genius and he always works hard in the classroom.
“He has been a stalwart of the playing fields as well as a Timelord and a Lion King. And he has just recently launched a successful career as a pop star.”
