As part of a special series of summer features, we turn our attention to our Year 6 pupils as we reflect on their accomplishments and get the perspective of departing Headmaster Roger McDuff.
The latest instalment features Ella James:
To say that Ella made an impact in what was her first year at Rydal Penrhos would be a huge understatement.
The 11-year-old has wasted no time in throwing herself into everything going on at the school, whether it be classroom tasks, performances on stage or contributing to the success of various sports teams.
She played a starring role in the Year 6 performance of The Lion King, where she delivered a polished and funny performance as Timon alongside twin brother Freddie, who took on the role of Pumba.
Ella was also part of the Rydal Penrhos U11 netball side that were crowned Conwy champions at an Urdd tournament, before their efforts also saw them reach the quarter finals of the national showcase, which is the first time that any side from the school had reached that stage of the competition.
The pupil has also thrived academically in areas such as well and science, and has quickly risen through the levels of Rydal Penrhos’ special Spelling Challenge.
In recognition of her fantastic first academic year at Rydal Penrhos, Ella took home the Rounders, History, and Welsh prizes as well as a 6EM Form Prize for the overall contribution both in and beyond the classroom during the school’s annual Speech Day earlier this month.
Mr McDuff, said: “Ella joined us at the beginning of the year and made an immediate impact with colleagues and children alike.
“She is honest as the day is long, hard-working, kind and personable and her impact on the year cannot be underestimated.
“She is also clever and hard-working and her example to all in everything she does has been a most valuable asset to the school.”
