Leading anti-doping figure to give talk at Talented Athlete seminar

A leading anti-doping figure will be giving a special talk at Rydal Penrhos’ latest Talented Athlete seminar.

Steve Roberts, who led a team of 60 staff who tested athletes in the biggest anti-doping operation in Olympics history during the London 2012 games, will be visiting the school on Tuesday, June 12.

During the discussion, Mr Roberts, a firefighter based in Wrexham, will be speaking to the Rydal Penrhos’ Sports Scholars and their parents about the current World Anti-Doping Agency regulations and the everyday substances that would see them incur a ban should they be tested positive.

This talk has been set-up with a view to heightening knowledge on a constant hot topic throughout the sporting world with testing becoming more prevalent in underage sports at national level.

There will be another special guest appearing at the seminar, with Amy Roberts, a Sports Nutritionist from catering providers Holroyd Howe speaking on how each pupil can achieve their nutritional needs from Rydal Penrhos’ new and exciting menu that has been available since St David’s Day earlier this year.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “We are delighted that both Steve and Amy have agreed to attend our latest Talented Athlete seminar, which promises to be an extremely useful learning experience for every pupil in attendance.

“The evening is all about educating our pupils and parents and exploring the topic is an essential part of their education. While it may not be relevant to all immediately, it is relevant to some and one stage away for many.

“They will also get to find out more about the huge benefits that can arise from fuelling your body and mind in the correct way thanks to our outstanding new catering provision provided by Holroyd Howe.”
