A large number of Preparatory School pupils took full advantage of another wonderful opportunity thanks to Rydal Penrhos’ association with a leading organisation.
The seven Year 4 and 5 pupils managed to successfully complete their Level 1 and 2 Dinghy Course, which is administered by the Royal Yachting Association.
This was held at the school’s sailing department, which recently received RYA accreditation and can now hold courses and events under the organisation’s banner.
During Level 1 the group learned how to sail in all directions, including an awareness of launching and recovering, while Level 2 involved rigging, launching, sailing in all directions, in addition to capsize recovery and essential safety knowledge
Louis Walkden-Williams, Will McLaughlin, Jorgie Lynch, Archie Jeeves, Charlotte Payne, Will Glanville and Tilly Trueman all displayed the necessary commitment and prowess to pass the course, which will stand them in extremely good stead for further sailing exploits in the months and years ahead.
Deputy Head Alison Hind, said: “Our sailing programme is an extremely valuable asset to us here at Rydal Penrhos, and these opportunities are a great way of enhancing a child’s overall development.
“This is something they grasp with both hands and I was delighted to hear of their success on the Dinghy Courses, and I would like to thank the dedicated coaching staff for their superb support and guidance throughout the process.”
