A talented athlete at Rydal Penrhos added to his growing list of accolades with success at a national event.
Kieron McNamara, a Lower Sixth pupil at Rydal Penrhos, produced a fabulous effort to earn a top three finish in the Javelin at the Welsh Schools’ Athletics Championships, which was held in Cardiff last week.
The 17-year-old produced another standout effort to achieve second spot after series of impressive throws, and he missed out on leading the pack by the narrowest of margins.
The gifted athlete qualified for the national showcase by gaining success at the Eryri stage of the competition alongside fellow Rydal Penrhos pupils Mollie Smithfield, Sean Hughes and Zach Speakman.
This is the latest in a series of triumphs for the boarding pupil throughout the academic year, with Kieron part of the 1st XV rugby side that won the Cheshire Plate in fine style.
He is also a member of the Sale Sharks Rugby Academy after impressing scouts with his exceptional performances, and also earned himself a place on the Lancashire U17 squad.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Kieron has visibly grown in stature during his first year with us at Rydal Penrhos, and for him to gain yet more recognition on the national stage was incredibly pleasing.”
