A Preparatory School track and field star performed well in his first national competition recently.
Jonathan Osbourne, a Year 6 pupil at the school, entered his first Wales Junior Championships event at Wrexham Athletics Stadium on Saturday, August 19.
Despite being one of the youngest competitors at the showcase and competing on his 11th birthday, the pupil narrowly missed out on the medals in both the 100 metres and long jump events but showed plenty of encouraging signs that indicate a podium place could be in his future if he continues to develop at his current rate.
Jonathan will shortly be heading to Rydal Penrhos’ senior site on an Academic and Sports scholarship, and he has already been working with the dedicated Strength and Conditioning staff situated within the school as he looks to
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “This was a very good effort from Jonathan in his first national competition, and his can be very proud of his accomplishments in the face of some very strong and more experienced opponents.
“He has come on a great deal over the last few months which is a testament to the effort he is putting in at both the track and the gym, and we are very exciting in terms of what the future holds for him during his time with us at our senior school here at Rydal Penrhos.”
