International Baccalaureate group secure Speech Day prizes

A group of Sixth Form pupils at Rydal Penrhos signed off in style by claiming a series of awards from a special event.

The final cohort of International Baccalaureate pupils received their respective distinctions at the school’s Speech Day celebration, with Dr Victoria Galbraith on hand to dish out the accolades in her role as special guest speaker.

A big winner on the day was Melina Keil, who took away prizes for Biology, Economics, German A Literature and Mathematics thanks to her sterling commitment to her academic studies.

The German boarder also secured the Prize for Progress in English as a Foreign Language to round off an incredible final year at the school.

Phillip Novak is now the proud owner of the English B and History prizes, with outgoing Prefect Jule Mayer scooping the Extended Essay and Music accolades from the event.

The Michael S James Cup for Geography, named in honour of a much-loved former Principal of Rydal Penrhos, went to Jonas Lucas-Nuelle, who also received the Theory of Knowledge prize to further enhance his overall accomplishments.

Rounding off the awards were the duo of Oleksandr Sorokin and Maksym Hrymych, who won the Physics and Russian prizes.

Senior School Head Sally Ann Harding, said: “Our International Baccalaureate cohort have been a real credit to themselves and the teaching staff that have worked tirelessly to help them reach their potential during their Sixth Form studies.

“They can all be very proud of what they have accomplished during their time here and we wish them the very best of luck with the next stage of their journey.”
